Kansas City purports to be the home of spectacular barbecue, but when I serve this at partees, I always get rave reviews:

Barbequed (Pulled) Beef Sandwiches

3 pounds beef (rump or chuck is good)

2 onions, coarsely chopped

2-4 cloves garlic

2 T. vinegar

2 T. Worchestershire sauce

1 C. ketchup

2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

2 C. water

1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper

1 tsp. chili powder

3-4 T. brown sugar

Bake covered in low oven (300 degrees) 4-5 hours. (or slow-cooker, 6-8 hours on LOW -- cut water to 1/2 C.) Pull meat apart with two forks. Remove bones & fat. Cook an hour more. Uncover if too juicy.

Serve on dinner buns. Makes about 2 dozen sandwiches.

I cannot tell you how many times I have had to write to Helena to get another copy of this recipe for myself and my gigantic son who loves his "aunt Helena's" cooking almost more than his mom's...you must try this one..,.
