What to charge for dance ministry - Dave - 02-11-2008

I've been booked to lead a messianic dance day for a church next month. It turns out I can't make it due to work commitments, and a couple of friends will be doing it for me.

But I'm still involved with the planning, and the dreaded spectre of money has reared its ugly head...

I'd be interested to ask the forum what they consider would be an appropriate amount to charge/expect for an all day event (10:30am to 4:30pm) involving 4.5 hours of teaching/leading time, plus preparation. Travel time is about 1.5 hours each way. Also, what factors do you take into account when working charges out. Assume that the host church is of, say, 200 members, and not struggling financially.

I realise that most people will be in the US, where the currency and cost of living are different to the UK, but I'd still be interested to see what you think.

Most people will easily and gladly pay $35 for a morning/afternoon seminar (one day event), so you might consider basing an honorarium/offering on that, and requesting a minimum. So say you set your minimum at 10 people. That would mean you are asking for $350 plus travel expense as a base amount, and then add on for each extra person. It is up to you and your sense of the churches means whether each added participant would cost the church an additional $35, or whether you would make a sliding scale of some sort. You would have to assess that on an individual event basis.

I would say that would be a minimum that would be considered adequate here.
