Hey Dean,
Tell me about your shofars, how'd you get into playing them?
How many do you have? (and why?)
What got you into shofars?
and. . .lower brass eh? Tuba's?? Fill me in! ;-)
Blessings!
Moe.
I'd like to get some points of view on this issue, as it comes up for me on occasion.
What do you think is the appropriate response when someone wants to commission you to make some worship extension or garment for them and you know they are spiritually flakey? Maybe not totally heretical, but just kind of "off" if you know what I mean. And you suspect they might be using the holy object/garment you produce with some strange theology. Or maybe with some superstition overtones.
Is the right thing to do to make it for them and let the use of it be God's problem? Or does being a steward of these things translate into only releasing them to people you know will use them in a pure, holy way?
Sometimes it's a black and white thing for me. Like when the masons wanted me to make a banner for them. I had no problem declining that commission. But I'm talking about other fellow spirit-fillled Christians who are just a little off the beam, and usually way out from any covering body. I struggle with this fairly often, so I'm interested to see what y'all have to say about it.
Hello, Im not extremely "computer saavy" so I hope I send this message correctly.
Ive been introduced to your web site by a dear friend Judy Matter whom I met at EXALTATION! in Columbus, Ohio last year! The banners on your site are beautiful!
I just enjoy websites with people who LOVE worship as much as I do!!!! I am in a dance ministry at my church and would appreciate hearing from others in the dance ministry.
Hi guys....
The thought of sharing our personal conversion stories came up on another thread, so we thought we'd pose it to you as a question of whether this would be something you would like to see on ZFF.
We do already suggest that new members share a bit about their worship background in the New Member Intro forum, but this would be an emphasis on giving our Chrisitan conversion testimony....whatever that means to you. If you are in favor, we'd also like to know if you think it should be viewable by guests or for registered members of ZFF only.
So please register your vote, and add any comments to this thread that you wish. Also, if we don't get ANY response, we'll consider that a resounding NO to the proposal. We'll close the poll after a week and make a decision then.
Hi all,
Our church is very new, out of all denominational backgrounds. . . we (especially me) are getting more into prophetic song and such.
What do y'all believe as far as that goes, what have you read, how and what have you learned?
What's prophetic song etc sound like? ;-)
Oh, and while I'm on that subject, does anyone here play the shofar--especially during worship or as a call to worship? (or is that a whole other topic?) ;-)
My understanding of prophetic song / worship is it's between songs. . . staying on a few chords. . . singing whatever comes out from God. . . . (very basic description here). . .whether in tongues or words. . .can be to the same tune as the last song, doesn't have to be. Isn't necessarily "prophecying things to come" but telling of God's goodness and such, calling His people to deeper worship etc. . . . am I on the right track?
Helena, I'd love to get to know you better--do you have your testimony anywhere on the forum?
blessings!
Moe.
I'm looking to prepare a talk on attitudes to the arts within the church, and I am trying to trace some sources for a comment I once heard about music.
Apparently, centuries ago, the church banned songs in major keys, as they were considered too joyful and frivolous for Christians to sing. Christians back then were expected to be solemn and serious all the time.
I'm keen to know if this can be verified, as I obviously don't want to say anything that's incorrect.
I only heard it mentioned in passing years ago, and can't remember any of the details. The speaker may have said Ionian mode instead of major scale (if that sounds like a load of Greek to you, it is, but now is not the place for a discussion on scales and music theory).
I want to contrast this to the fact that books have been written recently in which minor keys are condemmed as being too miserable and sad for believers. Also, in Jewish society, minor keys are often associated with joy and celebration. So some of the songs that Jesus sang (and almost certainly danced to) were probably in minor keys.
Conclusion being that we should be reluctant to say that A is right and B is wrong, as we interpret music and other art forms from our own cultural perspectives. We are frequently unaware that these have both changed over time and are anything but universal.
