Take a look http://www.callingallnations.com/home_en.html It might also interest members here that the great Andy Au and his Movement in Worship team is staging a mega flag/dance routine at this event. My little lassie I had co-opted as my principal dancer for the sadly lamented "Kyries" went for an audition for it and was accepted!! She is over the moon and so, may I add, am I! Zenophobe that I am, I shall definitely be off to Berlin for this event! Anyone care to join me?

Sad, sad, sad! Will nothing I plan get heaven's 'go-ahead'?! I've not beend able to get time off work to go after all and also some unexpected expenses arose so wouldn't have been able to afford it either. Still, apparently it is going to be broadcast by GodTV. Well, that's something, at least. Still would have liked to go, tho' but!

Well, I sat through the entire event - 10am to 8.30pm!!! It was amazing. There was Chris Nichols, who's vision it was, David Ruis, Brian Doerksen, Rueben Morgan, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, Delirious?, YFriday and so many more, many I didn't know. There was no preaching as such, just words of faith and edification and some prophetic words. The event was intended as a worship and boy, did they ever worship. There were about 20,000 people there but due to the size of the Olympic stadium, they looked small. Still, their enthusiasm more than made up for it. Only sad thing was that the people were in one end of the stands and the stage was the opposite end of the playing field! As a consequence, many were using binoculars to see the performers!! Andy Au's troup was both impressive yet disappointing. I'm afraid I'm not into all this slow moving expressionist dance and though some of it was lovely, I thought most of it lacked focus. And the groups were sadly lost in the enormity of the stadium. But there were groups out there all the time, using flags, streamers, staves, mime, dance - no I'm wrong - it was impressive! And so many people in the stands were using flags - national flags, worship flags, banners and standards. What a day of worship!! |

What an exciting report! Sounds like it was pretty far up the mountain!
I hear what you said about some of the dance lacking focus. What a succinct way of putting it. And if by expressionist you mean to make a relationship between the expressionistic painters' era and some choreography, that again says well what I've felt about a lot of movement for a long time. There really should be at least some direct relationship between the movement and the words/music. For me, it's like having words that don't match the melody or style. It distracts and tears at my inner self. Conflict of sorts. I'm anxious to hear how your experience affects your participation and leadership in your congregation's worship life. Blessings! |

Interesting question, Dean. I have felt for a long time that I was 'ploughing a lonely furrow' with my flags but more and more I get feedback from people saying how much they've been effected and impacted by my use of the flags, how they find my interpretive 'dance' brings them closer into worship. I've even had people tell me they were in tears and/or 'inspired' by the flags. I've spoken of Tevor, our worship leader, before and he continues to encourage me and rejoice at what the flags bring to the worship session - his words, not mine! And I'm constantly being told "you weren't here last week (like I didn't know!) and it just wasn't the same!" It's sweet but one has to remember that it's not really the absence of me they're bemoaning, but the flags! Its' all extraneous to me anyway because my flag worship is my worship. It's not a performance (naturally) and I'm not part of the worship team. I chose to do it because it's my way of telling the Lord how much I love Him and that's all that's matters to me. If others get some fall-out, that's wonderful and I rejoice in it. Sometimes I think I would like to be considered part of the WT but then I think that might hinder my inhibitions and ability to stay open to the Spirit and that would never do! |
